Quit? Me. Never.

August 1st, 2011

“Take quitting out of the equation.” How about that?

Wouldn’t every moment of every day seem brighter and more possibility laden without that “Quitting” option jumping off the menu of life into your mind’s eye.  In fact, quitting can be considered more than merely a menu item -  it is the Fast food of choices – always the easiest and arguably the least beneficial option to select. And like quitting, Fast Food is the path of least resistance.  Quitting requires no discipline, no perseverance no willingness to expand.  In fact, it is the opposite – surrendering to the notion that you have peaked with no room left to grow.  If an ejaculation in french is called a little death I could argue that quitting would be a BIG Death.

While this BIG Death, on the surface, may be justified citing fear, competition, or lack of opportunity, it ultimately reflects ones unconscious self imposed limitations on their world and abilities.   Who at the drive through window would consciously say: I ‘ll take an “I quit” with a side order of failure (quitting’s close cousin).  But I know in the past I have fallen into this attractive well disguised trap.  Only in retrospect do I realize I was even quitting at all thanks to the clever packaging I subconsciously wrapped it up in.  I guess I needed to understand quitting before I could understand it’s opposites commitment and perseverance.  Regardless, I do hope my menu has now been updated so that I may stick to all my endeavors long enough to savor in tastier and more elaborate meals.  Meals that require my greatest focus, desire, and skill to prepare.  Meals that could never appear before a quitter.

So why don’t we just take quitting out of the Equation? My opportunities and possibilities have been and will always be whatever I say they are.  So I say they are Unlimited if I am willing to just stay hungry and expand as a person.

Welcome to “success as you define it, quitting is never an option” restaurant – Can I take your order please?
